Bournemouth maybe Challenging the Goal line fiasco
Do we blame them? Support them?
Or don't we care?

I’m guessing the 4th official also has access to one of the screens that are on the sidelines where managers can see what happened.
Am sure he could have told the ref ... like they did when Zidane head butted Materazzi in the 2006 World Cup final

Alfie ...

Any pushing was by own team mate...

Re: Bournemouth maybe Challenging the Goal line fiasco
Just playing devil's advocate here...could it be argued that the keeper was fouled and pushed with the ball over the line?

I can't really remember the detail now other than it was in.

Re: Bournemouth maybe Challenging the Goal line fiasco
Supposing it was in one of the games that Villa played against a top four team.

Do we think it would have been quietly accepted?

Re: Bournemouth maybe Challenging the Goal line fiasco
I’m all in favour of this incident being analysed in detail in public. What possible logic can explain the failure to award a goal when the ball is clearly in the back of the net, and VAR officials can view a replay any number of times and from different angles as well, if they’re lucky.

It will be be great getting someone to explain why it wasn’t given as a goal.

Re: Bournemouth maybe Challenging the Goal line fiasco
Hopefully they rinse out the company responsible for VAR.

The matchday experience has been so watered down and sterilised that half the time we could just be watching CeeFax from the stands waiting for a VAR decision may as well replace players with robots or run next season entirely from Football manager on computer if we carry on down this road.

Re: Bournemouth maybe Challenging the Goal line fiasco
Pickle Rick, you are right about Bournemouth needing to have won more points but by the same token Villa were gifted a point they might not have deserved and at the end of season they stayed up.

It’s one thing to have watched a game prior to this season and listen to pundits producing footage to highlight a reffing error but this season with goal line technology augmented by VAR you can understand Bournemouth’s frustration over this issue.

Re: Bournemouth maybe Challenging the Goal line fiasco
IIf the goal line technology didn't work surely someone in Stockley Park must have seen that the ball had clearly crossed the line. Also if you watch the incident the Villa defender actually handles the ball prior to that. At the very least the blades should have had a penalty.

Re: Bournemouth maybe Challenging the Goal line fiasco
Then Bournemouth needed to have performed better to get the points to stay up, not zero in on one game whereby a mistake happened that cost a point, they had plenty of games after that to improve their position, they didn't, went down, end of!

Re: Bournemouth maybe Challenging the Goal line fiasco
You'd expect the premier league would have some legal protection that all the clubs agree to the referee's decision.

Regarding the actual incident, before agreeing to implement Hawkeye the question should have been asked is it possible for it to be obscured by a freakish combination of players in the wrong positions. As shown it is, after which Hawkeye should alert the ref/linesmen that they go back to the default setting of them deciding (or sending a decision to VAR).

Retired professionals in the VAR box to pull up the numpties with whistles would be a start.

VAR amplifies idiocy.

Get rid of the idiots, and it might have some chance of being liked.

Re: Bournemouth maybe Challenging the Goal line fiasco
I don’t blame him as much though I wonder what the fuck he was looking at when the ball had travelled 30 or 40 yards to an obvious spot
It wasn’t as though the ball had been deflected or blocked
Why Mike Riley hasn’t been sacked because of his personal vendetta against the monitor I don’t know.
Should get a competent ref in as their head
A FOREIGN ref obviously

Oliver the cunt was the ref wasn't he?

Sven Roeder 7:11 Wed Jul 29
Re: Bournemouth maybe Challenging the Goal line fiasco
The VAR simpleton was watching all of that
A word in the ear of Oliver to say that it looks like your watch (or the system) is faulty and you need to go to the monitor would have sorted it in 30 secs
The fact that it wasn’t should see that official sent down to ref matches on Hackney Marshes

Percy Dalton 6:56 Wed Jul 29
Re: Bournemouth maybe Challenging the Goal line fiasco
If the referee had gone and looked at the pitch side monitor he'd have seen it was well over the line.
Waving his stupid wrist about saying his Mickey mouse watch didn't beep is beyond the joke.

Re: Bournemouth maybe Challenging the Goal line fiasco
Unlike the idea of this purely to put VAR and the mechanisms behind it in the spotlight. All the shitty problems with it need ironing out ASAP and in this instance they should have overruled the goal line tech

I do feel sorry for the Hawkeye/goal line team. It’s been a brilliant system that has failed just this once due to a unique set of circumstances. It was because the ref was too scared to over rule an obvious mistake by their system and var just didn’t bother to look at it
because the system is usually so reliable that they’ve come unstuck

Re: Bournemouth maybe Challenging the Goal line fiasco
All this drawing lines is only televisual in any case - the maths in the algorithm that decides goal/handball/offside can run quietly - and more quickly - in the background and the decision sent to the referee via his private communication channel.

No need whatsoever for the media companies to be involved in real time.

Re: Bournemouth maybe Challenging the Goal line fiasco

If any club has a beef with VAR etc its maybe Wolves, had it not been for some very dodgy decisions going against them they could have finished equal with Man U and Chelsea on points, a case could be made they have missed out on a champions league spot!!

Yes that’s fucking ridiculous, but so have some of the decisions this season, toes or fingers ruled offside, over 10 mins I think for one decision going over and over the footage, FFS if its not clear cut it should stand, maybe have rule as such, no decision in 60 seconds, whistle goes play on, goal given etc.

Re: Bournemouth maybe Challenging the Goal line fiasco
VAR is here to stay, not for the good of the game, but to allow media company additional airtime for adverts at a time when they know viewers will not look away/channel hop.

Water breaks offer the same additional opportunity although more planning is possible.

If a player needs a swig of water there are plenty of chances to get one during breaks in the natural flow of a game - I recall players copping a drag off a fan's fag during a game as a fairly regular happening, so it's not as if there are no such opportunities.

Re: Bournemouth maybe Challenging the Goal line fiasco
It's a bit like the Sheff Utd mentality. Completely failing to recognise that they didn't get many points over a season.
